Hi everyone,
This week, I am sharing some new prints and illustrations I have been working on. They are all inspired by a fairytale theme. Old-fashioned book illustrations always inspire me in some way, so I decided to make a print based on classic book plates and opening chapter pages:
© Once Upon A Time, Pink by Abigail Davidson; Medium:
Linocut; Size: 10x12 inches
|
© Once Upon A Time, Blue by Abigail Davidson; Medium:
Linocut; Size: 10x12 inches
|
Both the Pink and Blue "Once Upon A Time" prints will be available at the gallery.
For some drawings, I decided to make an ATC inspired by the old Red Riding Hood illustrations:

pencil, pen, illustration markers; Size: 2.5 x 3.5 inches
|
Many of the older illustrations use scalloped cameo frames, so I decided to make an original character portrait:

Watercolor, color pencil, ink pen, acrylic; Size: 8x10 inches
|
Along the same lines, I was further inspired to take my Nautical Girl illustration (previously posted on Creative Tuesday's theme Striped) and turn that into a cameo as well:

pencil, pen, marker; Size: 8x10 inches

As you can see, one medium can often influence another. I really enjoy taking an idea from a drawing and turning it into a print (and vice versa). Do you have a theme you often like to explore in different mediums?
Since fairy-tales are often associated with magic, I decided this would fit the Color This Quote Challenge for Artists in Blogland, combining my interest in print, illustration, and collage:

The Inspirational Quote for July:
"The sun is shining...That is the Magic. The flowers
are growing--the roots are stirring. That is the Magic. Being alive is
the Magic--being strong is the Magic. The Magic is in me--the Magic is
in me. ...It's in every one of us." The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgeson Burnett
I believe art is its own form of magic with the ability to heal, inspire, and connect people.
Wishing my friends a safe and happy 4th of July!
