Illustration Friday: Farewell

Last week, I finished my final exams before graduating college with a Bachelors in Fine Arts, drawing concentration. My parents surprised me with sunflowers and tea roses to congratulate me! They were so beautiful that I decided to sit down and sketch the sunflowers.

By chance, the topic for this week's Illustration Friday is "farewell." When you think of the word "farewell," it doesn't necessarily have to be associated with "goodbye" or "end." I interpreted it as "farewell to college life and hello to a fresh beginning!"

As I did some research, I found that sunflowers can symbolize intelligence, life, happiness, optimism, growth, and the sun itself. Different cultures have various interpretations of the sunflower and its spiritual meaning. Many artists love to draw or paint their interpretations of sunflowers. One of the most famous examples would be Vincent Van Gogh's sunflower paintings.

I just love sunflowers! They instantly brighten up a room and allow for so much creativity.

  1. Well, very MANY congratulations on your degree!! That is so awesome for you. What's next?
Your sunflowers are beautiful and made me smile. I love your 'interpretation' of 'Farewell'. I like etymology but usually only follow it when a word intrigues me, haha. Looking forward to seeing more of your work as your newest follower. I don't have a blog, but do use Flickr. Have a great week :0) Mo
